Humidtropics is one of the 15 CGIAR Research Programs (CRPs). The goal of Humidtropics is to improve overall productivity, and transform the lives of rural poor in the humid tropics, through system approaches. It targets humid lowlands, moist savannas and tropical highlands with three impact zones: (1) Sub Saharan Africa, (2) Tropical America and (3) Asia. Four important elements of Humidtropics are people, production systems, partnership and policies. People are at the center. The program focuses directly on rainfed smallholder farming systems and their opportunities to boost their income from sustainable intensification of their integrated production systems.
The Central Mekong Area is one of the action areas of the Humidtropics. The primary focus of the Central Mekong Action Area will be on the complex of rice and non-rice cropping and farming systems (plus areas with other land uses) in the non-flooded lowlands, uplands, and highlands.
There are three action sites identified in Central Mekong Action Area. Those sites are referred to as triangles and thus called: green, golden and development triangles. The Northwest region of Vietnam is belonging to the Green triangle.
