Vietnam can produce more coffee with less water, a conclusion made by over 90 people on the 10th, October 2013.

The conference “Vietnam to produce more coffee with less water: How to bring research into practice” was co-organized by EDE Consulting GmbH, IWMI (International Water Management Institute) and WASI (Western Highland Agriculture and Forestry Institute, Vietnam) on the 10th of October, 2013 in Buon Ma Thuot City under a project funded by SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation) and Netsle. Attendants to the Conference were over 90 people, including leaders of the Department of Crop Production and Agricultural Extension Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, scientists from WASI and some other institutions, representatives from agricultural cooperatives and private enterprises and many coffee growers.

Outputs of research for increasing the effectiveness of water use by scientists from WASI and were presented and discussed. After active discussions on aspects relating to the adoption of research outputs the conference ended with the above mentioned conclusion. A list of actions and approaches were also proposed, which however demonstrated that great efforts from all the stakeholders will be required for this to be come true.
