World Water Day And Earth Hour In Vietnam

Morning 21 March, the Premier Nguyen Tan Dung, The Netherlands Ambassador to Vietnam Joop Scheffers, The UN Ambassador to Vietnam Koos Neeffers, and the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang attended the national anniversary of the World Water Day organized in Can Tho City. Over 4000 people participated the meeting and expressed their concern about the water resource reduction and  the need to cooperate for water resources protection. To remark the twentieth anniversary of the UN World Water Day, during past days in many locations in Vietnam, schools, universities, institutes and companies organized meetings, forums and campaigns towards better protected and saved fresh water resources.

The same day, also in Can Tho city, the ASEM seminar on Water and River Basin Management – a Green Growth Approach was opened. Participants from 51 ASEM member countries and representatives from different UN organizations participated the seminar. The main objective of this two-day seminar is to strengthen the international cooperation for protection and sustainable exploitation of fresh water resources linked to rivers running though many countries.

World Water Day And Earth Hour In Vietnam

On 23 March, in the country the Earth Hour will start from 20h30 to 21h30. To echo the WWF campaign  I Will If You Will” in many public squares and institutions, government offices, private companies and apartments the light will be off. Before, many activities were taken by students, pupils, workers… to encourage people to join the Earth Hour to spread the message You and I to Save the Energy. The EVN company and its agencies in different locations also organized  meetings and forums for students, pupils and staff in many institutions to express their commitment to save the energy.
