The project is part of the regional scientific and educational network on agroecology of “Towards an agro-ecology transition in Southeast Asia” (ACTAE project 2015-2017 funded by AFD). It also contributes to the project Innovative Pedagogical Resources in Conservation Agriculture (IPERCA) funded by Agropolis Foundation. The main goal of the project is to integrate case studies in Laos (Xayabury, Xieng Khouang provinces) and Cambodia (Battambang province) in a comparative analysis of agrarian dynamics and their socio-economic and environmental impacts at the regional level. Thus, it aims to (1) conduct an inventory of agrarian dynamics and available bibliographic resources (publications, reports, satellite images…), (2) To analyze land use changes, their proximate causes and underlying driving forces, (3) To assess the impacts of land use changes on local livelihoods, (4) To evaluate the capacity of alternative farming and cropping systems based on agro-ecology principles, and (5) To assess the potential of alternative farming and cropping systems to enhance the resilience of rural communities to economic and climate uncertainties.
